Travel requirements
U.S. citizens are required to have a valid U.S. passport. Residents of all other countries should check with the Honduran Embassy/Consulate prior to leaving for specific entry requirements.
Airport taxes
When departing Honduras, you will be required to pay approximately $33 per person for airport taxes, please ensure that you set the amount aside. Only cash is accepted.
Drinking water
It is generally okay to drink the water at some of the resorts on the islands, but for your own well being, we recommend that you purchase bottled water, which is widely available on the islands.
Tipping
Tipping is customary on the islands, as it encourages the service staff to excel. 10% is the norm, but use your discretion and tip what you believe the staff member deserves.
Gift shopping
There are a number of excellent gift shops on the island, and your hotel manager will be able to point out which is best for the area where you are staying. If you require further info, please email one of the TropicalREZ agents for advice.
Safety information
The islands are generally safe, but please be cautious when walking at night and please remember that most people on the islands see you as very wealthy compared to them. Many hotels have safety deposit boxes at the reception.
Buying groceries
There are a few excellent grocery, meat and general supermarkets on Roatan. Try Eldons in French Harbour, HB Warren or Plaza Mar in Coxen Hole, and Woody's convenience store in West End.
Transportation
You can hire vehicles at excellent rates from TropicalREZ, so visit our car rental section. There are also organised tours for visiting the attractions on the islands (visit our adventures page) and ask your hotel manager for taxi rates.
Internet cafes
There are a number of excellent internet cafes in West End, Coxen Hole and French Harbour. Ask your TropicalREZ agent for advice on where to go.
